What microevolution is? What are the three ways that variation occurs?

  Microevolution is a gene frequency change due to the populations.  Microevolution is based on the gene frequencies in a population over a geological time period.  Microevolution is not as easy to see as other kinds of evolution because it occurs inside the organisms' bodies. Mutation, selections, gene flow,  and gene drifts are the different processes due to the microevolution.  Population genetics is the branch of biology that provides the mathematical structure for the study of the process of microevolution.  The variations occurs when natural selection, artificial selection, or mutation occurs.

Why is fossil record hard to interpret?

  Fossil is hard to interpret because the animals' or plants' are at least 10,000 years ago, so it is very hard to tell the shape or species or the animals' or plants' fossils.  In addition, the paleontologists always break the fossils to take the main shape out, so a lot of fossils do not have enough parts on them.  Getting a fossil also is hard since the paleontologists are getting the fossils under the heating sun and inside the ground.  On the other hand, interpreting the fossils also can become easier because some ants are helpers who collect the tiny pieces of fossils under the ground.  To sum up these reasons, interpreting the fossils is a hard job, and we need to appreciate the hard works of the paleontologists.

Why evolution is a theory but not a law?

  The concept of scientific law is something that is unchangeable; however, a scientific theory is something that can be changed and improved.  Based on this concept, evolution can be a discovery by human, and we are investigating the world of evolution every day since we do not totally understand or control evolution.  Our scientists are finding how human being evolved from monkeys.

My Conclusion of This Year

  The time passed so fast since it is already a year.  My favorite activities that I mostly like in this class is different kinds of experiments or labs that we did  because I had a lot of fun from these experiments.  However, I still have the least like part in this class which is the products that we use during the experiments are not that professional.  In addition, if I could change one thing in this class, then I am going  to change the class time because we always do not have enough time to finish the lab and complete the worksheets.

How DNA Changed Us Investigate Crime

 The DNA with exceptional identical twins are basically found in blood cell.  For example blood, skin, saliva, semen, and hair follicles are the essential DNA during the crime test.  There are different DNA techniques to investigate the crime, such as RELP, PCR analysis, STR analysis, mitochondrial analysis, and Y chromosome analysis.  RELP is the first DNA investigation application.  To analyze DNA, forensic scientists use a specialized enzyme to analyze the different lengths of DNA from digesting result.  PCR anaylsis is to use millions of exact copies of DNA from a biological sample.  The STR analysis is to evaluate the specific region of DNA.

Gregor Mendal's Pea Experiment

  In 1866, a great scientist named Gregor Mendal published his finding fro a pea plant experiment.  Based on the experiment, Mendal found out the dominant and recessive heredity.  Mendel cross-pollinated smooth yellow pea plants with wrinkly green peas.  Every single pea in the first generation crop was as yellow and as round as was the yellow, round parent.  Mendel learned from this that there are two kinds of traits - dominant and recessive.  The dominant traits are the yellow color and the round shape since they show up at the expense of the green color and the wrinkly shape.  http://www.tutorvista.com/biology/gregor-mendel-pea-plant-experiment

Should Parents Able to Pick Children's traits.

  Based on the current science skills, we do not have enough knowledge to accomplish picking traits for a baby.  In addition, I do not think pick traits for babies is a bright idea becasue the genetics is the only thing to design the baby.  Otherwise, we change the baby's traits is like a way to change a person to another one.  In the movie "Gattca," the parents have choosed the traits for Vincent; however, we cannot change the traits of babies in the modern times due to we are still investigating the interesting science world.
